Signs of Maturity
Maturity is when we realize:
- we are responsible for our actions and we stop blaming others.
We realize that we can never be satisfied with the blame game. We learn the importance of being honest with ourselves.
- The importance of self-love.
We generally are not taught why to love ourselves from very childhood hood and we rely upon others in order to feel good in the form of validation/appreciation. Even the comment concept of love is highly dependent on the partner. people start a relationship in order to derive happiness from others and in this move they tend to put a huge unrealistic burden of expectations on them. It's good to have certain real expectations but the unrealistic ones hurt.
when things go against us - which is most likely to happen very often in our lives and no one else other than ourselves can understand us - we realize the importance of loving ourselves.
Self-love doesn't mean blind faith in one's opinions, judgments, or actions. But it just means taking care of ourselves without being totally dependent on others in all cases and doing what is right for you without being selfish.
- Discipline is a way of life and not a compulsion.
While we are kids we are taught the importance of discipline in our lives. Then we learn it from compliance when we are punished for breaking the rules. Later, we realize that discipline isn't a compulsion at all. but a great tool to manage our lives in the most optimum way.
- We develop our own original thinking we are not a follower anymore.
We are always taught what to think and not how to think. thinking how to think to involve thinking by the first principle.
What brings up objective answers and is a very good tool for self-introspection but for developing our own original thinking that will help us for survival in this world can only be generated by asking how and why.
When we start questioning the very basic things in life - we can get a completely new insight into everything.
- Life has no meaning in itself it's only us who can attribute it some.
It is the quest of many people to find the meaning of life. but a better inquiry could be finding the meaning of their own life. The meaning of life can be different from person to person - and what is not the same for everyone is not cant be the truth - and hence, life itself has no meaning.
- The necessity of being emotionally strong without losing our sensitiveness.
Life never progresses in a linear fashion. things change with time because change is the only permanent phenomenon.
We do face a lot of tragic events in life and every time we face such issues, we learn something or the other. While some choose to be completely overtaken by the situation and losing control of their life for an absurd event, some do choose to take them as lessons and move ahead. Emotional strength is not something that is emphasized upon by society. But, emotional stability is probably more important than the intelligence quotient in order to succeed in life.
Emotional strength doesn't mean losing our sensitivity to small things. If we would lose our sensitivity - the world will turn into a more cruel space.
- It is unworthy to live just for ourselves and try to be the medium of change that makes the world a better place to live.
Animals just care for themselves and their family at max. They do not share a common sense of belongingness and that is something that sets humans apart from them. Living for others first starts with living for yourself. If you can manage your life and achieve satisfaction and happiness in your life only then you can extend your support to someone else without expecting much.
- Life is short.
If we are told that we have 876464 rupees to spend we instantly come up with a plan to spend that money in our mind. but we never calculate the amount of time we would stay alive.
If I say you have 98723 seconds to live from now- what would be your plans?
- Happiness is not always the end goal.
This is a common misconception among people that happiness is the end goal. Happiness is just a choice rather than an outcome. Choices can be made instantly. Certain outcomes may remind us of our natural state of being - being happy, bring that forgotten feeling back but is it always good to rely upon achievements and outcomes for being happy? It would really be a poor approach for living. Is it worth leaving upon people to make us happy? Can our happiness be so cheap that if one decides to destroy it - they don't have anything much to do?
Satisfaction is a greater thing than happiness. We do several works in our daily lives where we don't feel happy every time but after finishing that thing - we feel satisfied with our industrial.
- Become self-aware.
As we grow mature not only we understand how things work and how people generally behave. We start having a perception of everything but ourselves too. That is called self-awareness.
